Hosted by Red Thread Refuge Society, this family-friendly fundraiser brings together braiders, local vendors, sponsors, volunteers, children’s activities, community resources, and people who believe survivors deserve more than temporary help.

Braid Volunteers
Volunteer with Braids for a Cause 2027
Braids for a Cause is powered by people who believe community care should be more than words.
Volunteers help create a welcoming, organized, family-friendly event while raising awareness and support for women, children, and pets rebuilding after domestic violence.
Roles may include:
Event setup and takedown
Greeting guests and answering basic questions
Helping vendors, braiders, and activity stations
Supporting children’s activities
Donation table or raffle support
Handing out RTRS resource information
Keeping the event space tidy, calm, and welcoming
Assisting with parking, line flow, or general event support
Any and all GENERAL volunteers are encouraged to sign up. If you have high-school community hours to do, this would be a great cause. All we ask is that everyone is respectful, dependable, and ready to help create a safe, positive space.
Braids for a Cause is looking for experienced volunteer braiders to help create a fun, welcoming, and well-organized experience for guests while supporting Red Thread Refuge Society.
This role is for braiders who are confident working with a variety of hair types and can complete clean, secure styles in a timely way.
Braiders must:
Have experience with basic braids, Dutch braids, French braids, and cornrows
Be able to work independently with minimal direction
Be comfortable standing for extended periods
Bring their own basic braiding tools and supplies, if possible
Be reliable, punctual, and committed to their scheduled shift
Be willing to stay for the agreed-upon time
We cannot place the full demand on only two or three braiders. Every volunteer braider who signs up must be prepared to show up, participate, and stay through their confirmed shift unless there is a true emergency.
This is a survivor-centred, family-friendly event. Braiders must be kind, patient, respectful, and comfortable working around children and families.
